Enjoying Winter Outdoors at Talking Rock

Prescott in the winter is a gorgeous sight. With its mild four seasons, there’s usually only a dusting of snow to give it a magical ambience, yet it remains delightful for outdoor adventures.

With its normally lovely weather and picturesque scenery, a plethora of outdoor activities beckon. We have compiled a list of our top outdoor activities in and around Talking Rock and Prescott perfect for all ages and athletic abilities to conquer.

Christmas Lights in the Downtown Courthouse Plaza

Start the season off right in Prescott, “the Christmas City,” with a lovely stroll around the downtown plaza, which is surrounded by towering trees, twinkling lights and often a dusting of snow.

Pickleball

Pickleball is big at Talking Rock. There is Ladies Pickleball at 9 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Mixed Doubles at 4 p.m. Sundays and Men’s Pickleball at 8 a.m. Tuesdays.

Tennis

Talking Rock’s tennis pro, Cathy Low, offers clinics, drills and private lessons to residents. She is always willing to get more people involved. There are tennis courts on the Talking Rock grounds and it is a fun way to get outside and enjoy the weather while getting some exercise. Cathy is available to work around your schedule.

Golf

Golf in the winter may seem outrageous, but trust us, it’s possible. The Jay Morrish Championship Golf Course at Talking Rock was designed to provide the best golfing experience year round. While the course does sometimes get a small brush of snow, it melts within a day and your golf can resume as planned.

Nordic Walking Group

The Talking Rock Nordic Walking Group meets at 9 a.m. every Tuesday in front of The Barn Fitness Center. The walk typically takes about one hour and is three miles along the golf course and trails. The time of the walk is subject to change based on time of year, so please be sure to check the monthly newsletter for more information.

 Jeep Junkies Tour

If you are interested in rock crawling this is the activity for you. On a recent trip, Talking Rock members met at Coop’s at 9 a.m. and then drove to Barstar Brewery on Copper Basin Road for an exhilarating jeep ride through the ponderosa pines.

UTV Club

Members of Talking Rock have the exclusive opportunity to be a part of the club that explores the beautiful scenery of Prescott via UTVs. A UTV, or Utility Task Vehicle, is a two- to six-person, four-wheel drive, off-road vehicle used to access remote tracks. Club members bring their UTV or rent one at nearby shops. This thrilling activity is an opportunity to see every inch of Prescott and the surrounding area while spending time with old friends and making new ones.

Hiking, Biking, Running Trails

There are numerous walking, hiking, running and biking trails around Talking Rock, so get outside. With lovely scenic routes you won’t even feel like you are exercising. These trails provide an opportunity to explore on your own or join one of Talking Rock’s hiking, walking or biking clubs.
