6 Ways to Volunteer in Prescott
Prescott is known as a supportive community with small-town charm. Part of that magic comes from the down-to-earth individuals who call Prescott home. Residents care about their community, and are eager to jump in and volunteer when needed. If you’re new to the area, or in-town for a visit and would like to work alongside residents to enhance this already strong community, here’s six ways to give back and volunteer in Prescott.
1. The Salvation Army Prescott
The Salvation Army in Prescott is dedicated to helping to fulfil basic human needs without discrimination. From raising money to providing clothes, shelter and food, The Salvation Army provides countless opportunities for anyone who wants to help those in need. Volunteer opportunities include in the thrift store which is open Monday through Friday; Healthy LifeStars Youth Program, or for early risers, volunteer in the kitchen – volunteers will report at 6:30 a.m.
The Salvation Army provides refuge for many people including children and at risk adults. For safety of all people seeking refuge, volunteers must go in and apply to be a volunteer as well as go through a background screening and interview process.

2. Stepping Stones Agencies
Stepping Stones Agencies helps advocate on behalf of people who have been in abusive situations. There are many volunteer opportunities that are great for retirees or individuals looking for work experience. These include volunteering in the thrift shops that are made available to the families, as well as opportunities to help in the shelter depending on your skill set and experience. In order to volunteer, you must go through and pass a background check. This is in order to ensure the safety of those people who are seeking refuge.

3. Prescott Meals on Wheels
Prescott Meals on Wheels is a mission that was started to provide nutritious meals (delivered daily) along with a wellness check, conversation and socialization to some of Prescott’s most vulnerable citizens. There are numerous volunteer options for those wanting to help out. Positions are available in the kitchen and dining room, driving and delivering meals, special events, fundraising and even opportunities to be creative and deliver something fun and hand made with the meals.

4. Prescott Litter Lifters
Prescott Litter Lifters was established in 1981 in order to help maintain the pristine beauty of Prescott’s environment. This charity covers 60 miles throughout Prescott in which a different 20-25 mile area is covered each month; including adopted highways and streets. Prescott Litter Lifters allows volunteers to pick up roadside litter twice a week for an hour on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Each volunteer must provide their own transportation along with their own long pants, gloves, hats and hiking boots. Volunteers will be given their own Litter Lifters t-shirt as well as their own pick-up stick, trash bag, and outer protection trash bag. To sign up you can call or email one of the team leaders.

5. Prescott Valley Public Library
The Prescott Valley Public Library provides a very unique opportunity for those who have a passion to teach as well as for reading. Volunteers have a chance to work one on one with adults over the age of 18 to improve their reading and writing skills. Training is also provided to volunteers so that they feel prepared before teaching adults the literacy skills they deserve.
There are also volunteer opportunities in areas such as:

6. Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation
Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation was founded in order to assist in bettering the lives of foster children by providing grants to fund the unmet needs of these children. On top of grant funding, the foundation also includes a family visitation center, transportation expenses for CASA, bi annual clothing supplements, holiday gifts and much more.
There are an array of ways to volunteer including ambassadors who help with promotion, fundraising volunteers, creative team volunteers who help with the hands on creation of promotional materials, plus many other volunteer positions.
