Think Fresh: Prescott Farmers Market
Who’s hungry? The Prescott Farmers Market features a dazzling lineup of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally raised meats and eggs, and artisan foods and other products prepared in Yavapai County. The concept started out in 1997 with just a handful of farmers but has grown to more than 30 vendors at their Prescott winter and summer markets and a dozen at the Chino Valley summer market.
These markets don’t just have fantastic food selections, they serve an important role by supporting local agriculture, families, and the business community as a whole. They’re producer-only, meaning that vendors must grow or raise everything within Arizona – or in the instance of processed foods and crafts, must make everything they sell at the market using a percentage of Arizona-grown ingredients.
Buying local, you’re maximizing the freshness of your food and nutrients that end up on your plate – plus it’s just plain fun to experiment with whatever’s in season and looks tasty. While you’re shopping, it’s also a great opportunity to chat with the farmers about their products and practices!
