Love gazing at a serene lake, hearing the rustling of leaves overhead or walking alongside a flowing river? Spending time in natural spaces reduces anxiety, worry and stress and is fundamental to our health and happiness. Recently named the Best Destination in the State of Arizona for Nature Lovers by travel website Expedia.com’s Viewfinder travel blog, Prescott, Arizona is an oasis for those looking to connect with the great outdoors to find the peace they seek.
Prescott pulled of the top ranking for its mild climate, 1.25 million acres of national forest, 16 parks, three lakes, and hundreds of miles of multi-use trails. The terrain, temperatures and easy access to a plethora of outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, running and walking, moved Prescott to the front of the nature-lovers preferred pack.
City Manager Michael Lamar, a relatively new Prescott resident, said he agrees wholeheartedly with the Expedia ranking.
“In the short time we’ve lived here, my family and I have enjoyed many of Prescott’s trails and parks,” Lamar said. “We are fortunate to boast the Prescott National Forest; the one-of-a-kind Granite Dells; Willow, Watson and Goldwater lakes; and 450 miles of multi-use trails.”
In addition to the top ranking, Expedia also recommended local outfitter, Ribcon Outdoors for guided tours, rentals and adventure tips for those traveling to Prescott.
“Guided hikes and adventure tours are the name of the game with Rubicon Outdoors, which also offers self-guided itineraries that include hikes through Granite Basin, Ponderosa forests, and up Blair Pass for unreal views of Skull Valley,” Expedia’s blog stated.
Recently Expedia Viewfinder named Prescott’s downtown one of the Coolest Downtowns In North America. Prescott has received numerous rankings in the past several months including Number One Place to live in the Southwest by Sunset Magazine, and Top 13 Happiest and Healthiest Places to Live in the Nation by Time Magazine.
