Bunker Renovation
Surrounded by high desert native plants and views expanding across the terrain. Talking Rock’s acreage inspired the golf course design. With rolling hills and Granite Mountain as the backdrop, the course offers picturesque and a distinctive 18 holes that cater to every skill level.
Strategically placed and recently renovated, 90+ bunkers are currently being restructured and reshaped with Capillary Concrete™.
A patented and engineered polymer-based concrete will replace the entire bunker and liner and the traditional herringbone drainage pattern is updated and placed. As the drain sits center, a 1-inch layer of gravel lays above and below the drainage pipe. A formed edge treatment is known as a “Drain Vault” provides a deeper column allowing a better performance with finer sands. A 2-inch layer of Capillary Concrete™ lines the walls sitting flush with the drain vault, while at the top edge a 3-inch vertical turn and shelf are built to accompany our straight edge treatment. Our chosen sand mixture provides an off-white color and the blend helps to eliminate plugged golf balls. An average of 2-3 inches of sand shapes the inner sides as an addition 5 inches fill the bottom of the bunker.
As weather impacts the sand and bunker, water will filter through the sand, concrete, and gravel, draining appropriately to keep the bunkers in the best conditions. So, while playing the course this season, be sure to do your best to avoid the 90+ bunkers but if you do find yourself playing through, enjoy all the new renovations.
